This particular Japanese hammer, the Daruma, has a larger face than other variants of gennou hammers, making it easier to strike a chisel or nail. They are not as good for tight location nailing, for this we recommend a square or octagonal shaped hammer, the flat edge makes it easier to strike a nail dead flat perpendicular to an opposing surface. The Daruma is great for general chiseling work and tuning kanna (Japanese planes).
