Walrus Oil

Northern-hemisphere native, the Walrus, is a large marine mammal well known not only for their tusks and whiskers, but also for their habit of waxing lyrical before consuming defenceless oysters. Walrus Oil (not a by-product of a wanting skincare routine), is a US company who make a fantastic range of natural and environmentally-friendly wood finishes.

CA Glue in the Workshop

Many woodworkers have a secret weapon in their workshop. It’s not a fancy machine or an heirloom hand plane. It is in fact a small bottle of a chemical called ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate – better known to most people as ‘CA glue’ or ‘Super Glue’. And that latter name is pretty accurate. CA glue does more jobs, and quicker than any other common adhesive. A bottle, or three, of CA glue will be found in almost every woodworker’s workshop.

The company’s name “Freud” isn’t a family name such as “Sigmund Freud”, the name is a combination of “Fre” that is short for “fresa” (the Italian word for cutter), and “Ud,” the abbreviation of “Udine” (pronounced “OO-dee-nay”), the Italian city where the Freud company was founded in 1962.
