The Sherwood 20in Industrial Thicknesser gives you the option to choose between a single-phase or three-phase motor. Both motors are rated at a massive 5 horsepower, delivering more than enough power to muscle through demanding dimensioning jobs, even in challenging Aussie hardwoods. The motor, which runs a triple-belt pulley system to the cutterhead, is matched with a two-speed gear box to adjust your feed rate – slow feed rate for a better finished surface, and fast feed rate for rapid dimensioning.

The hefty cast body eliminates vibration and cutterhead chatter, while the precision leadscrew head adjustment allows you to dial in your exact setting with confidence. Once the head position is set, the bed locks keep it tightly in place, increasing your accuracy and reducing snipe.

For exacting precise measurements, the Sherwood 16in Industrial Thicknesser comes fitted with an iGaging Digital Read Out (DRO). The easy-to-read display shows metric in 0.05mm increments, as well as decimalised and fractional imperial in 1/64in increments. The hardened stainless-steel body is IP-54 water/dust resistant rated for long life. Zero out your measurements as needed, and have confidence that you’ll never be just ‘close enough’ again.
More Mobility
The Sherwood 20in Industrial Thicknesser is mounted on a cabinet equipped with four tough and smooth-rolling castors, allowing you to easily position the machine when needed. In one motion the foot locking knob, locks the castors into place, giving you a stable bed to plane. The inbuilt extendable lifting handles, allow for easy movement with a forklift or joist to manoeuvring into exact position in your workshop.
Helical Head
Helical cutterheads deliver a very efficient and smooth cut, requiring less horsepower, making smaller chips and operating with far less noise than other types of cutterheads. Unlike conventional single straight knives, you do not need to replace the knife if it becomes damaged or dull. Instead, if one knife edge is damaged or needs sharpening simply turn it to another edge in seconds. You will only need to replace the inserts when four edges are dull, giving you much more life than HSS knives.
