Unlike other butt chisels, MHG’s handles have a hoop to allow them to be used with a mallet without splitting the handle. Hinge mortices and other outlines can be defined with more accuracy using a struck technique.
However, MHG have been careful to ensure that the hoops are not uncomfortable when pushing these tools in a paring motion, making them truly an all-round butt chisel. The European ash handles are generously curved to allow excellent pressure and control. The chrome-vanadium blades are hardened to 61HRc. They are sharp out of the box but will benefit from minimal final honing prior to use. Made in Germany.
