Sherwood Drum Sanders produce precise and uniform results, perfect for completing repetitive tasks such as flat surface sanding, precise dimensioning and component sanding.

The Sherwood 18in Drum Sander is a precise sanding machine. The sanding drum is fixed to eliminate vibration, with the conveyor table movement driven by four broadly spaced heavy duty drive screws. This means the sanding drum stays rigid leading to vibration free performance.

The Sherwood 18in Open Stand Drum Sander offers broad sanding capacity in a compact and mobile footprint. Sand up to 18in (457mm) wide in one pass, and down to as thin as 3mm in thickness. If your piece is a little wider than 18in, no worries. As the sander is open on one end, you can flip your part around and run it through again. When sanding narrower parts, work one side to the other along the drum to maximise the life of the sandpaper. A longer drum means a longer time between sandpaper changes.

Cutting Depth & Adjustment

A cutting depth gauge located on the centre of the machine above the infeed point reads out the exact amount being removed by the drum sander as your workpiece is passed through, including when the material is not being engaged. The height adjustment hand wheel is very responsive, allowing the table height to be adjusted very finely. Each full turn of the hand wheel raises the conveyor table only 2mm. There is a locking knob located on the front of the machine to fix the height position securely. Together these features create a vibration free and precise drum sander providing you with super smooth, uniform results.

Compact & Mobile design

The Sherwood 18in Drum Sander is of a compact upright design. This means it fits easily into your already crowded workshop ready for when you need it. The easy to assemble open-stand frame has been upgraded with four mobility castors. A foot pedal located on either side of the frame engages the wheels, allowing for the drum sander to be easily moved around the workspace. Once disengaged the drum sander is lowered onto adjustable rubber feet.

Emergency safety switch and panel

This drum sander features a both an emergency stop switch and a prominent emergency stop panel. The emergency stop panel is handily located at the material infeed point for quickest possible access in the event of an emergency. If you ever get into trouble with a piece of loose clothing or by trying to sand too deeply in one pass, the emergency stop switch or panel will halt the machine.

Adjustable rate of feed

The Sherwood 18in Drum Sander conveyor table speed rate can be adjusted between 0.5 – 4 metres per minute. Feed parts through quickly when skimming or sanding narrower softwood parts. Slow the rate of feed right down so you can sand wider boards or cranky hardwood without burning the surface.

Upgraded Dust collection

The SWD-460-X features improved dust direction under the hood. When your Sherwood drum sander is operating, an inbuilt impeller forces air (along with airborne dust) out through the 75mm dust port on the left-hand side of the machine.

Included with the machine is a reusable felt dust collection bag to be mounted onto the filter bag support. This support is an upgrade that gives the filter bag maximum, uninterrupted air flow and extraction capabilities. For best results, it is highly recommended you attach your drum sander to a motorised dust collector or shop vac.

Upgraded Conveyor Bed Material

The SWD-460-X features an upgraded conveyor bed material: a textured rubber for enhanced and long-life grip, ensuring your material is held in place securely along the conveyor. The open texture of the conveyor belt also allows for easy vacuuming of any dust particles.
