Crown is renowned in the hand tool world for delivering a blend of tradition and innovation. Whether it’s for something beginner or bespoke, their range of HSS woodturning tools crafted in Sheffield, England suit all levels of woodturners.
Manufactured from durable M2 High Speed Steel (HSS) and hardened to 62-64 Rockwell, this tool is carefully ground and ready to turn right out of the box. Due to its high abrasion resistance, M2 HSS will hold a sharp edge much longer than many other steels. This means less time spent sharpening those unique grinds, and more time spent woodturning. High-speed steel also withstands the heat better than traditional carbon steel, making it particularly well suited to turning tools.
The wooden Beech handles with steel ferrules are ergonomically balanced for ease of use during extended woodturning sessions. Beautifully finished, these lovingly crafted tools have been made for decades of use, until they find the hands of the next generation of turners.
Roughing Gouge
A Roughing Gouge is the ideal tool for the preliminary shaping of round and curved objects from square edge spindle stock. The large flute is perfect for scraping away sizeable sections of timber, with the steep cutting angle minimising dig-in. Before leaving the factory, all Crown roughing gouges are tested at the tang to ensure that they absorb the shock generated by rigorous roughing without breaking.
