  • Birdsmouth Jointing Bits

Birdsmouth joints are a traditional joint used in making masts. These bits allow you to do this, but more interestingly, allow you to make multi-sided vessels. These bits will allow you to use timber up to 22.2mm (7/8in) thick for flush joints, but to make cylindrical pieces, use thicker material and then turn or plane down to the round shape. All bits have a 1/2in shank and should be used in a router table. Length of bit = 22.2mm, Diameter of bit 38.1 - 41.3mm

  • Butterfly Key Spline Bit BKS-286-H

A butterfly key spline bit allows you to make strong loose tennon joints that are either hidden or can be used decoratively. Run your own moulding using this bit and then cut out the slot using a dovetail bit with a 14° angle.

To run the moulding, simply setup the centre point of the bit in the centre of the timber and make two passes on either side. It can also be used for drawer and table extension slides.

For better safety, these bits should be used only in a router table equipped with a fence and not used free hand.

Only available in a 1/2in shank to suit material 12 – 45mm high.

  • Drawer Lock Jointing Router Bits

The drawer lock bit is designed to specifically to joint 12mm timber at a 90°angle to improve joint strength and ease of assembly when making drawer frames.

To set up, adjust the depth of cut on the work piece being passed against the bit horizontally to be the same as the thickness of the other work piece. Then on the vertical work piece make sure that the work piece only just engages with the inner-most edge of the cutter and the two pieces should fit flush together.

  • Edge Banding Groove Set EBSET-254-H

Simply centre and run the groove cutter along the edge of your veneered MDF or ply board to cut the 60° profile and then centre and run the tongue cutter along your timber edging to match the veneer to create a snug, strong and virtually invisible joint. Suits material 12.7 – 25.4mm thick.

You can even run the timber edging taller than the main board to create the appearance of a thicker table, say using a 30mm high edging on 19mm to create the appearance of a 30mm-thick table.

  • Finger Joint Router Bit Assembly FJ-380-BH

Finger joints are the strongest method of butt jointing when using a router bit to cut the profile. The tapered fingers interlock and create a joint that is stronger than the timber by increasing the gluing surface area by up to 10 times over a standard butt joint.

The tapered profile makes it simpler and easier to assemble the work pieces when gluing. Finger joints are used in many structural jointing applications where strength is of the greatest importance and you can rest easy knowing that you have creating a bond stronger than wood when using this method of jointing.

  • Panel Raising (Vertical) Router Bit Chamfer VPR-03-H

Standard panel raising bits are at least 79mm diameter and are usually daunting for novice furniture makers. Vertical panel raising bits are significantly smaller diameter with the only difference that you run the work piece vertically in a router table. The only drawback of these bits is that they can only machine rectangular frames.

For a modern kitchen door simply cut the profile of these bits on the edge of MDF panels and finish them either in clear coat or high-gloss paint minus the rail and stile frame.
