Making Screw Threads in Wood - 1861081952
Fred Holder's clear explanation of exactly what a screw thread is, and how it functions, removes much of the mystique surrounding the process.  Covering screw threads cut on a lathe using jigs and hand-held chasers, he also addresses the use of taps and screw boxes to cut threads by hand.  Specific projects - including a wooden bolt, threaded spindle, screw-top box and walking stick join - illustrate alternative ways of using threads in wood.  You will be shown:  cutting coarse and fine threads; laying out and cutting external threads with a chisel; using commercial tools and making your own alternatives and internal and external screw threads.  Fred Holder has been turning wood for over 12 years, experimenting with different techniques and forms including segmented work, multi-centred work, bowls, balls, boxes and chasing threads.  His work is centred on small items, such as lace bobbins, spinning tops, mushrooms, goblets, scoops and bowls.
